Q&A

What attracted you to the Leadership Program?

I was attracted to this leadership program for the community of likeminded arts leaders it will connect me with. I’m excited about the ideas I’ll be exposed to and the expertise others will bring. I look forward to learning about other art forms and arts practice, to complement what I know and continue to learn from the incredibly passionate and skilled artists and arts workers I am surrounded by every day at Circus Oz.

What does leadership in the arts mean to you?

To me, leadership in the arts is about being open, asking hard questions, and working collaboratively and respectfully to find robust solutions. It is about creating positive change. It is about building a solid, safe and supportive foundation for risk-taking and experimentation, creating space for artists, arts workers and arts companies to inspire and challenge audiences and communities across all parts of Australia and internationally.

Why do you think it is important to develop Arts Leaders?

For the arts to thrive, the systems and structures we create must be nimble and responsive to the changing needs of our sector, our current and future audiences, and the wider community. It’s important to develop arts leaders to drive this change; to enable our sector to evolve ethically and sustainably; and to nurture and strengthen the wider arts ecosystem.
