The Australia Council for the Arts acknowledges the passing of distinguished art historian and curator Edmund Capon AM OBE.
Mr Capon made a significant contribution to visual arts in Australia, leading the Art Gallery of NSW for more than three decades.
He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of service to the arts, and in 2003 was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the United Kingdom government.
“Edmund’s passion for Chinese art, helped to build cultural connections, particularly through his important role as Chair of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art,” said Australia Council Arts Practice Director for Visual Arts Laura McLeod. “His keen eye, passion and commitment has made an immeasurable impact on the Australian visual arts landscape.”
