ADT TAKES OUT HELPMANN FOR NEW WORK

The Australia Council for the Arts congratulates Australian Dance Theatre on receiving the 2006 Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work.

Australian Dance Theatre received the award for its outstanding new production Devolution, which had a sell-out season as part of this year’s Adelaide Bank Festival.

The work, which features ground-breaking interactions between dancers and robot technologies, has been supported by the Australia Council through its New Australian Stories and Major Festivals Initiatives.

The production’s co-creator Louis-Philippe Demers also took out the Helpmann Award for best lighting design.

Australian Dance Theatre is one of Australia’s most influential dance companies, under the artistic direction of Garry Stewart.

The 2006 Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work is sponsored by the Australia Council for the Arts.
