Susan Van Metre is the Executive Editorial Director of Walker Books, a new division of Walker Books International. Previously she was at Abrams Books, where she founded the Amulet imprint and edited El Deafo by Cece Bell, the Origami Yoda series by Tom Angleberger, the Internet Girls series by Lauren Myracle, They Say Blue by Jillian Tamaki, and The Questioneers Collection by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts. Susan is a nearly thirty-year veteran of children’s book publishing with a specialisation in middle-grade and Young Adult fiction, and has worked with such authors as Katherine Rundell, Mariko Tamaki, Jeff Kinney, Aidan Chambers, Mac Barnett, and many more. In her position of publisher of Abrams Books, she bought in several titles from Australia, by Graeme Base, Maureen McCarthy, Bruce Whatley, and others. She is a great admirer of Australian fiction, and counts Jaclyn Moriarty and Margo Lanagan among her very favourite writers. Susan is also an adjunct professor of the Writing MFA Program at the New School University and has taught Margo Lanagan’s Black Juice in her workshops. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Pete Fornatale, and their daughter and Lab mix.
